I always try to understand things, events, and theories by putting them into an equation. When you can make an equation with a few variables out of seemingly incoherent things, it gets really easy to understand them, predict them, and adapt to them.

Till now, what I have realized in my pursuit to find the equation of life is that, it is an extremely simple one. Of course, I’m not giving it out just yet. After the formulation of this simple equation, it is filled with all kinds of temptations, complexities, and distractions of life which make it difficult to perceive and recognize. Yet, we strive for success. But what really make a person successful?

In my hunt for the secret formula to success, I went to some of the most successful and acclaimed people of our country, to know their own story of hard work, dedication, luck and the ‘secret’. This book contains a compilation of my journey that I have had for the last few years, with my experiences of meeting 16 of the best minds of our country. With an aim to get a holistic idea, I have approached people of different professions and different philosophy of life.

When I decided to work on this book, I was a third year undergrad student in university. Now, as I look back at my journey of almost two years with this book, I have had realizations that I didn’t have before. There is a quote by Henry David Thoreau, an American poet and philosopher, “Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.”

To my readers, my sole aim of this book is to inspire you to go an extra mile, to work an extra night, to read an extra book and to constantly meditate over one question that Steve Jobs asked us to ponder over.  “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I’m about to do today.”

A good and pure word is like a good and pure tree. A tree whose roots are very well planted and its growing fast. And it keeps getting deeper and deeper that lasts generations. And its upper branches are extending and pointing up at the sky. It provides fruit at every hour, constantly at every time. Tree only provides fruit in one season, but this special tree provides fruit all the time, by the permission of its Lord. All this imagery of a tree is the parable that Allah gives for ‘A Good Word’ in the Quran. A simple good word or advice is comparable to such a special tree that always stays as something positive.

With the hope that this book will remain as ‘a good word’ for the world and spread inspiration among people, here are the stories of 16 people who put together thousands of small and big stones to build their own castles.
